Information about the Maulbronn Monastery

In 1147 A.D. an abbey of Cistercian was founded in Maulbronn (30 km east of Karlsruhe).
Bernard of Clairveaux, one of the founders of this fraternity, designed the ground-plan for a construction, which turned into a building of extraordinary entity.

Today the Maulbronn Monastery is considered to be one of the best preserved medieval
monastery monumentums north of the Alps and represents an impressive document of the culture of Cistercians. Since 1993 the Maulbronn Monastery has been listed as one of UNESCO's World Heritage.
